Bracing for the holiday madness

22 Nov

So recently, I went from an unemployed freelancer to a guy with three jobs. Two of them in retail, at two wildly popular retailers that will surely get hit with tons of shoppers looking for last minute gifts. All of this happening within the span of two weeks.

Now with little training, we’re getting thrown into the wilderness and expect to somehow come out alive. Anyone who’s ever worked retail knows it’s a beast during the holiday season. Black Friday doorbuster sales to last minute Christmas shopping, holiday retail takes no prisoners. Having worked retail long ago, I can anticipate the frenzy coming around the corner. But I didn’t have two retail jobs back then, so how I’ll survive this holiday season. I don’t know.

A few people think I’m a little crazy working so many jobs at once, and I’m sure I’ll assess my sanity a couple of weeks from now. But sometimes you just got to do what it takes to pay the bills. Plus two awesome employee discounts don’t hurt either, especially when gearing up for the cold/holiday gift shopping.

Have you had to work multiple retail jobs during the holiday season? Let me know what your experience was like. I leave you with this picture of zen.

Still my favorite view of the city.

haha, i did it for a while when i was working 3 jobs. 1 office + 2 retail. it’s fine, just remember to breathe and finish whatever you’re doing and take a 5 if something (ie: irate customers) make you want to bitch slap something across whatever. btw, where’s my letter? oh and where are you retailing?
